Glad you got there in the end, as you say you do have to read plenty and give yourself the time to find out.

I installed the 4.506 Oct firmware this morning. Rescanned and spent a good 2 hours sorting out my channel list. Have to say the Oct firmware is much much better (very similar to starview 1) and the channel numbers now change relative to their position in the channel list! Result!

Will try recording later tonight to see if it still splits recording into 2 parts and if the HDD is still making that sound on playback.

Thanks for the help JBVid.

Hi
If you have the Starview PVR with 4.506 Oct F/W installed, I have posted the info how to do this properly and its in the first post of this thread towards the bottom. Keep reading and trying it till you get it.

More problems. Long post bear with me.

Problem 1) I press record (red button + not through the epg) on bbc1 and the red dot comes up top right hand side, then I change channel to bbc2 and it says "no signal! [T2]"?

Problem 2)I then go to ITV1 which works and press record on that and a red dot comes up on the top left hand side as bbc1 is recording also.

Problem 3) Now if I try to change channel while bbc1 and itv1 are recording it wont let me. Comes up with Will you stop current record Service: Coronation Street (ITV). I thought I could record 2 channel while watching a third?

Have tried the older July Firmware which came up witht he same problems so have reverted back to Oct one and still no different. The recordings work fine when playing back.

Once I stop the recording the lost channels come back? Is Problem 1 normal behaviour? Should I lose channel bbc2 when bbc1 is recording?

This also happens when I record itv1 and try to watch channel 4 or 5. I have noticed that the channels I lose are the ones which share the same frequency as the channel that is recording i.e BBC1 and BBC2 are both on freq. 411000 and ITV1 channel 4 and channel 5 are all on 419000 for my area.

The loop through cable is in the right holes. Cable 1 OUT to Cable 2 IN (Top left to bottom right) and I have tested the lead with another TV.

Any help appreciated.

Hi
You have signal strength feed problems into one of the tuners more than likely the 2nd tuner, remove all splitters and use the shortest cable run from the suppliers feed, check all your 'F' connections or even try a new or different SHORT piece of cable for your loop.
Problem 3 is normal, you can record two different channels but only watch the one you last set to record on.
If your still struggling, take the STB to a mates house who has cable and try it there.

Hi
Are you saying you can now get into the menu?, or you don't have time to look where I suggested? It takes less than a minute to read my post and try it.

I thought that it may be a signal strength problem at first but if I set bbc1 to record I can switch over to ITV1 and it works fine. Its only when I switch to channels which share the same frequency as the recording channel does the no signal message occur.

TBH it's not that big a deal as i'm hardly ever gonna record while im actually watching tv. Only bought it for the epg pre-recording and the pause & rewind functions which all work great.

Thanx again.

Hi Guys

I've been using my starview pvr for a couple of years and it is fantastic (much to the posts of you all on here) I've never posted before but I have a problem with my box in that it won't power on properly. It just says on and you can hear the hard drive going.

I've taken the power out and left and restarted in various ways. I took the hard drive our and tried without but no luck.

Any suggestions? Maybe there is a way to reset the box manually without it being on!!!

Using the latest (Oct software)

thanks

Hi
The only other things I would try is to first backup my channel list to H/Drive unless you don't mind loosing it, then (1. Do a factory reset from the Menu/System Setup then re-scan or load backup) or if same (2. Reflash with 4.506 Oct F/W again and re-scan or load backup)
Do either or both of the above with the H/D disconnected to check your problem out first.

Hi
Sorry , thought you meant your On fault was intermittant. Only option is to reFlash it and re-scan, Option 2.
You should hopefully be able to get a Null cable connection to work. Goto an eko.4shared.com link for files and how too's unless you know.

Hi

What do you mean by relash it?

I basically need to know if I can wipe it even though I can't get to the menu...I realise I am looking at buying a new pvr...at least I have all my channels saved and firmware on my hard drive.

Basically you need a NULL MODEM CABLE to connect your PVR to your PC and reload the version (4.506 Oct) on to your b0x and see will it allow it to power up and access the Menu options.

Alas even the serial connection is not working. I tried with and without hard drive n and it failed to flash the software..I think the box has just given up after 2 years...not bad though I suppose.

Just ordered my new box so should all be nice and easy with my firmware and channel list on my hard drive ( I might even try the new firmware on beta)

thanks for the advice anyway.

Hi
Strange that it won't flash, have you flashed it previously and had sucess with your present cable and setup procedure? I have recently tried the new Beta v3.1 firmware and I prefer it to any of the others so I have left it installed on my PVR, but others have pulled it to pieces so give it a try, everyone to their own.

Yes I've flashed it before this way but since updated the firmware from the hard disk.

It looks like some kid of screw up with the power on it as it just says on and doesn't much else when you turn it off and back on.

Hi
Goto the Cas system menu and select Nagravision 1,11 (Yellow) then OK, when on the black Nagravision 1,11 screen use the right arrow to select your correct provider ID then press the LAST load default button on your remote, then OK to store, then exit out make sure AU is still on, exit out and wait on a channel for update.
Just to add, it may be necessary to switch off and on at the back and wait.
