HOW TO: Use a USB Thumbdrive as a Memory Card (For Softmod)

Hey, I can't see the MaxDrive Xbox driver when im updating! Whats the deal? I'm pretty sure i followed all the steps correctly. I formatted diskdrive, installed AR + update changed the numbers in inf file. I tried browsing my computer for the drive but i could not find it.

 

Just started getting into softmodding my xbox. Bought it used and figured I'd experiment.

First, wonderful tutorial. Had very few problems and those were easily sorted out by reading the replies and such.

I haven't actually softmodded the box yet, but setting up the USB drive is complete and it works 100%!

I used an ImageMate 12 in 1 Sandisk card reader, Model SDDR-89, Part Number 20-9-00163 with a 256MB Sandisk SD card. You can add this to the 'Confirmed' list if you'd like.

Im using a confirmed working usb drive( cruzer micro 1gb), i followed the steps, but is still cant see the MaxDrive Xbox

ps) i couldn't get the inf file to save into the file location once i changed the numbers so i saved it to desktop, deleted old inf, then moved new inf to proper location. I dont think this maters but just ketting you know

Do you mean that you can't find the MaxDrive Xbox driver? With the card reader I used I had to cycle through the whole "manual driver install" screens several times before the driver I needed actually appeared. Make sure you edited the AR files properly.

I finished my softmod. Worked easily once I FINALLY transferred the files from my card reader to the HDD in the box. I used a Platinum Hits version of Splinter Cell.

Question...Are there different versions of EvoX and UnleashX? My girlfriend has a modded box, but her EvoX installation has different menu options and isn't as organized. Just a random thought.

Yes, thats what i mean. MaxDrive XBox doesn't show up just the one above it (usb mass drive or whatever it is). What do you mean "cycle" a bunch of times? What, did you just do it over and over again? It doesn't make sense, but ill try it. How many times did it take to show up?

ps) I am not sure about unleashx and evox versions, but you should check out xbmc because it looks baddass

 

EDIT: I made sure the inf files were edited correctly. I tried to browsing my files like 10 times with no success. Whats the problem?

 

MaxDrive was not included in the software I downloaded from totorial, so how is anyone able to download MaxDrive from "browse computer files"? cant see it

 

Hi, i recently bought a PSP value pack with one 32mb mempory stick, can anyone explain me how can i use this method for the softmod please? i am a bit confused on how to use the psp and his 32mb memory card for this.

 

UPDATE:

This mod only works with 128/256/512-meg Usb thumb drives.

1 gig drives do work in the action replay software but the saves won't function in the xbox and the same for 2 gig sticks when used it lists as a unknown save in a bunch of bogus folders and doesn't work.

 

Got it to work with a fujifilm A330 camera with a 16mb xd card & also with an Olympus FE-220 camera with 16mb xd card.

jbjmed82, I dunno if you've modded your Xbox by now, but if you havn't figured it out I'd try to format the usb with the AR software.
Plug the usb in you pc, open AR and click the white "memcard". If it says 0 bocks, then right click it and format it. Now try placing the saves on it.

My problem:
1. xbox says "blahblahblah... might be damaged" when i plug it in (I read this was normal). but it happens again after i put the saves on it.
2. when i format to fat32, plug into my xbox, then back to my computer, format it with AR, put saves on it through AR, then pull it out and put it back in AR says its enumerated. (if i reinstall the driver it sees it again with the files). but as i said in #1 above, the xbox says its damaged still.

I have 2 usbs, 1 makes the xbox mem screen flash in slow motion, the other is the one above.

I'm just gonna buy a new USB off amazon. I read that the "Sandisk Cruzer micro 256mb" worked so im gonna get that one.

found an LG 1Gb, but the xbox doesn't see it after i add the driver etc.

i formatted it (FAT32), put it into the xbox (said it was erased), added the driver and save files, back to the xbox---at the mem screen it's not seen.

any ideas?

only 128/256/512 meg usb sticks only work.

No 1 gig 2 gig or 4 gig.

 

That is erroneous, I used a 1GB SanDisk micro cruzer, SDCZ6-1024,A11 from OfficeMax.

 

this guide was very helpful for a friend of mine and i... i have a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 1GB USB Flash drive. And it worked out very well, didnt have any problems wat so ever. popped it into computer and formated to fat32 and then put maxdrive on it and AR read it and was able to do saves. xbox read it as well... seems to be easier to use when you dont have money and all you have is a usb pen a usb cord and an old controller for xbox. did some modding with controller and and usb female side cord and was able to use usb pen without a problem... a friend and i where glad to find this on google. made softmodding alot more easier. we still have a lil ways to go with xbox but once we get the game we are gonna use for it we will be done. thanx again for the guide tho.... was successful on wat we needed it for. everything worked just as planned and did everything exactly like it said to do.

By the way, I am not sure how have you attached the USB female to the controller, but you don't have to throw away that controller. I made mine so it is a 2-in-1 thinggie, it can be used as an USB slot and a controller at the same time. I didn't cut the cord all the way, just stripped it and attached the USB female.

 

I'm sorry but that's not true. For the most part it may be. But I just bought a 2gb Lexar secure usb drive down at target for $10, and it worked (I got lucky).

Yes but you need the action replay version 1.40 which is the latest version from codejunkies in order to download saves through codejunkies.

so what good does 1.05 serve you
