    Hi there,
My CD burner will only burn at 4x then i cannot read the CD's. It will read CD's that are official ones - from manufacturers, but not ones that are done at home.

Has anyone had this problem - it could be something to do with windows service pack, or maybe the lens is old...

    Cheers,
    Ash

If you find a clue, I'm interested

Infos I received, not tried yet, tell me if it's OK for you

I understand that the computer does not recognize some CDs. The issue
might be due to corrupted drivers, To resolve this issue the CD drive
drivers can be re-installed. To reinstall the CD drive drivers on the
    computer, perform the following steps:

    1. Access the Startup menu of the computer by pressing F8 during
    startup.
    2. Choose Safe mode from the Startup menu and press Enter.
    3. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
    4. Click the Hard ware Tab, Device Manager, and double-click CDROM.
    5. Select the first listed CD drive to highlight it.
    6. Click Remove.
    7. Remove any additional CD devices in the same manner.
    8. Select the first listed DVD-ROM drive to highlight it.
    9. Click Remove.
    10. Remove any additional CD devices in the same manner.
    11. Click OK.
    12. Restart the computer.

The computer will auto detect the CD devices and install the required
    drivers to run the device.

Further, download and install the updated patch for CD drive from the
    following URL:

HP by phone, after explanations, told me that it must be a material problem with the lentil or something like that. It's certainly nothing to do with software, driver or so on
