How can I improve my disk data transfer rate without getting new hardware? I ran the Windwos Experience Index and my score is 5.9, all of my other scores are 7 and up. I'm running a custom build pc with a Pentium i7 at 4.2ghz, 6gb Ram, Asus Rampage Extreme II motherboard and a ATI Raedon 1gb video card running Windows 7 64bit. All of my hard drives are 3gb/sec connected via SATA.

You can turn on faster caching...but only if you have a battery backup; even still it is a bit risky, as a crash can cause data loss.

I have the same issue, I am using the VelociRaptor 300GB 10k RPM SATA drive and was getting the same 5.9 rating. I have since added another and configured it for a RAID 0 (Striped) and got a 6.1 rating. All my other ratings are 7.2 and above. Not sure what the criteria for getting better numbers are, but it maybe using SAS or SCSI drives.
