I am planning to buy a dvd writer, but I have a laptop no desktop. So can someone tell me where to buy an External DVD Writer a cheap one? I heard there is an USB to IDE Adapter Cable, which you can use to connect the internal DVD writer with the USB to IDE Adapter Cable using the USB to the laptop, is that right? because I am planning to buy the IDE adaptor...

Just make sure that it's a USB 2.0 adapter. These Lite-on drives seem resonable:

Burning DVDs is a CPU and memory intensive process, so make sure you have the CPU speed, hard-drive and RAM to do it.

A resonable set up would have at least 1.0 Gig + CPU, 40 gig HD and 512 MB of RAM.

Yeah - very important you have USB 2.0 for that. I recommend getting the Pioneer DVR107 external writer. You know, if its too expensive, you can always build one yourself - not to difficult
