Playing DivX avi's on my PS2? HELP NEEDED!!

    Hey everyone,
    I'm pretty new at this whole "burning shit" stuff. Basically I have a PS2, a bunch of empty 700MB cd's, and a computer with a burner. I have easy CDcreator 5. I have no mod chip on my ps2 and I download DivX movies off kazza. I'd really like to watch those movies on my T.V. so I was wondering if anyone has any good tips or suggesstions?     another thing that I was wondering was; I got two "DVD games" from Thailand which are most likely burnt ps2 games. I got Jet Lee Rise of Honor and James Bond Everything or Nothing. I probably need a modchip to play them? Where do you get modchips? What are they? and I heard they can screw up your ps2? what are the chances and should I go for it? Thank you.
