Is is possible to isntall xvid, or divx 5.11 on a computer without writing to the c:windows folder? I have access to just about the rest of the c drive, but not c:windows. Alternativly, if i manually copy xvid.dll and xvid.ax to crogram filesxvid is there a way to point windows media player to the .dll file? thanks - Morale Booster
Yes i believe it is possible to install a working Xvid or DivX codec outside of C:Windows, however, if i was you id try and fix your drive so you can access all of it beacause even though you seem to be able access areas of your drive they may be fualts that may end up causeing other problems
the default dir for xvid.dll is c:windows, even if i try to install xvid to crogram files. sorry if i havn't been very clear.
I have mine installed in a folder outside of C:Windows, uninstall the codec, then create a folder outside of C:Windows, then when installing it again make sure you install it into the folder you created, it should put the xvid.dll into that folder. Thats how mine is. Get back to me plz
What version of xvid are you using? the version of xvid i have tries to install the .dll files to the windows dir, not the install dir
