Hey, I am about to buy an xbox and I want to mod it with a large HDD and a chip that will let me back my games up to that drive and play them from there.

I figured I better ask these questions befoire diving into it.

I see that the peak memory in xboxs is 120 gb. I would assume this is more than enough. Im no power gamer, so I was thinking like 40gb may be enough for me. How much space will the average backup use? Im talking about games like halo, not some crap like fusion frenzy.

What requirements if any does my HDD have to meet?

What modchip will let me play backed up games off the HDD? Which is reliable and cheap? Thats relly all I want from it unless theres some other real big advantage to modchips that I am overlooking.

any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

all chips now will let you play backups from the hdd
popular chip is the xecuter 2.3 and the latest bios
xbit chip is also pretty popular, either will do the job. Large hard drives arent the problem they once were, I know of people with 250gb drives in their xbox.
btw, a hard drive aint memory, its storage.

Theres quite a lot you can do with an xbox
play all types of media video /audio/pics,from disc or hdd, patch games and textures, Play emulators (psx,n64,mame etc) put an operating system of sorts on it,also you can use it to load files / video etc to your pc via the xbox dvd, if your pc doesnt have a dvd rom drive (via ftp) plus loads more stuff you can do.
Have a look at www.xbox-scene.com they have great tutorials and info etc
