i have an xbox with solder in the lpc holes, can i still use the xecuter solderless chip or do i have to buy a new chip or scrap out the solder?
Radio $hack or likeness sells a desolder tool. It allows you to heat up the solder and then suck it out of the hole. I used an extra nose bulb (for those of you with kids) on one side and my iron on the other. Worked pretty good. It was 2am and I was modding a 1.0 box. I like the header pin myself. Makes swapping chips easy. Oh yeah, the bulb is in my toolbox now not the drawer.
I just installed a new Xecuter lite [+] on my friends 1.0v xbox...the original one with solder inside the lpc holes and I didn't remove them at all(mainly cause I couldn't find my soldering iron). But I had no problem with it. As long as your alignment of the chip is good and secure then there's no prob. Just remember to remove the lacquer with a fiber glass pen from the D0 point.
http://www.teamxecuter.com/x23b_liteplus_method.htm you can use a exacto knife just be real careful u don't strip the copper off.
for good chip connection, make the screw hole slighly wider, it allows for better connection not just for the LPC area but the d0
No....you need to make a good connection between the d0 copper and the pogo point onthe chip which is also copper. electrical currents don't conduct through plastics. So you need to scrpe it off.
how exactly do you scrape it off? ive seen the guide at teamexectuer.com but it just shows before and after. i need to know exactly how to do it and where around the d0 point.
just shove the fibre glass pen on and scrach heh yeah... but i have done a few, not lite+ tho just plain old lite with solder
