    Hi.

I've heard there's a way that you can program (some) dvd players (that don't play dvd recordables) to play dvd recordables? Does anyone know how? Please help.

    Thanks

I would be curious to see how that would be done too. As far as I know; it isn't possible because the limitation isn't on the software end; it's all about the hardware. (Or more specifically the laser)

On a store bought DVD, the 1's and 0's are bumps and grooves physically stamped into the disc. On DVD-R's, the bumps and gooves are simulated by making the laser change the colour of the dye on the disc. Because the differences are not as noticable; DVD players with poorer quality lasers cannot read DVD-R's.

This page shows a little of how they are different. It uses CD-R's in their example, but the underlying technology is very similar. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cd-burner4.htm
