    Hi
I've been having tremendous difficulties transferring video from my sony digital handycam (digital 8) to my windows xp windows movie maker program. I have tried fiddling with the settings for a few hours now - any suggestions why the video capture is not working? I am using an IEEE 1394 application

    This is what I'm doing:
File > Capture Video > Video Setting = Best quality for playback on my computer (file type: windows media video (wmv); bit rate: variable bit rate; frames per second: 30) > Capture parts of the tape manually

The camera is in VCR mode and is able to be controlled via the computer in terms of playing, rewinding, etc., but no images are showing up and when 'start capture' is clicked, the video starts to roll, but there is no video captured.

    Thanks

I'd use an actual capturing program, such as Pinnacle, Ulead, etc.

I have no idea how to use Windows Movie Maker but you shoud be capturing under DV avi type II.
