Can anyone tell me what I need to get to make backups of my ps2 games?

I have a Maddog 7 in 1 dvd burner, and I have learned from this forum that I can only make working copies with a modchip installed in my ps2. Whats a decent mod chip, and how hard is it to install. I assume I can backup my games the same as I backup my movies, with shirnk and decrpter. Any input for this inexperienced person would be great. Also, if there is an alternative method to the modchip, I'd appreciate that input as well.

there are various different mod chips depending on what version ps2 you have and if you just want it to just boot backups or do other things.
other options instead of mod chip would be swapmagic with either slide card or fliptop
to backup your games you can use dvddecrypter using the iso read/write mode
