dvd-r has greater compatibility with earlier ps2 models if you have a v5 or later model of ps2 then you should have no problems with dvd-r or dvd+r.Some v4 ps2's will read dvd+r some wont so if you have a v1-4 ps2 use dvd-r if you have a v5+ ps2 you can use ethier + or -r discs
