Im very new at this.I downloaded a movie off kazaa, however it is in the format of a avi file. All i wanna do is watch it, can some please help a poor innocent female who has no technical minded friends to rely on! Looking forward to ur kind knowledge!!
All you want to do is watch it on your PC? What happens when you double click on the file? Windows media player should play it. Need more info please...
If i double click on the file it tries to open it in Win Media player then comes up with the error message that the file format is invalid. If i wanna download movies off the net am i able to just watch them with out having to convert the files. Any hints or tips in that area? Also I dont own a dvdr yet however am i able to download movies then convert etc then burn to disc for a dvd. I told u i was VERY new at this. Thanks heaps : )
1). sounds like you are missing the required codec. chances are that if you download the DIVX codec it will solve your problem. this can be found by a simple search in a search engine. 2). or search for "nimo codec pack", this has nearly all the codecs that you may ever use. install this an it will work.

You probably need the Divx codec Search Ggogle for it and download and install it, you should then be able to play the avi file with Media player
