max fields for dvd is 36 (18 fps ntsc) 30 fields ( 15 fps pal) when I check the details. it says something about lowering the framerate. pardon me foe bening stupid but , ehh HOW do i do that .!!! I've try'd many forums all say to reincode . but I get the same result. did I miss something???? any info would be really apercieated. thanks
It sounds like what the error is actually referring to isn't the frames per second, but the GOP (Group Of Pictures) length. Since I don't know what your level of knowledge in this area I'm going to assume you need a complete explanation, so don't be offended if you already know some of this ;-) MPEG uses interframe compression, which basically means that only some of the frames are complete pictures. The frames that follow them, up until the next full picture, only have changes to the picture. A full picture, and all the partial pictures leading up to the next full picture are referred to collectively as a GOP Group Of Pictures). The DVD standard specifies the maximum number of frames in a single GOP, which I believe is the 18 mentioned for NTSC or the 15 mentioned for PAL. In reality the standard is 12 (for either I think), and every professonally authored DVD I've ever looked at has used that number. Back to the error now. It seems to be telling you that there are more pictures in each GOP than the DVD standard allows. Since I don't know anything about your source video I can't tell you how this happened, but that seems to be what DVD Author is telling you. Ideally you want to re-encode the same source the MPEG file was encoded from originally and make sure the GOP size is correct (preferably 12). If this is the only form of the video that you have, you can still re-encode, but the quality will certainly suffer at least a little. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night. oh , I see! so thats the problum , I'll have to try that. thanks. if your wondering what source . its vhs to vcd , using a terapin vcd recorder. as I said before , I have no idea how this happened. this recorder encodes to get the best quality. but at the time my pc wasn't good enough to do this job so I got the vcd recorder , anyways thanks for the info on the error, by the way do you know of any good reincoders that'll do the job?? Ive tryed mainconcept mpeg encoder & a few others. but I didn't know the settings & how/where to do it. I am kinda new to this. I shoulda just waited for the dvd recorders. oh well.
MainConcept is definitely a good encoder, but I can't help with it much because I don't know where any of the settings are. I use CCE Basic personally, which is probably the best encoder around, but unlike MainConcept you can't get a fully functional trial version. For ease of use, TMPGEnc is probably the best, although it's a little buggy and sometimes causes some headaches, but it's also the one more people use so you might have the easiest time getting help with it.
ok how about womble. herd its supposed to solve this. I have tmpgenc dvd . but cant find the settings or modify them.
I thought about Womble, and I haven't used it, but I don't think it can solve this because it isn't just bad headers. It's actually the frames themselves which have the problem. I don't think it can be done without re-encoding. I should have been specific about the TMPGEnc product I was talking about. I actually meant TMPGEnc Plus encoder and not DVD Author.
yeah same here . I have both. dvd author & encoder. but if you can do it with tmpgenc. thatll be great!! but I have no idea what settings to use. do you???
Unfortunately I don't know TMPGEnc well enough to begin helping you there, but with any luck Minion will see this and help out. If he can't help you, no one here can.
Hi ,If the Problem is that the Gop Length is Wrong you can fix this useing the "Gop Fixer" in "Mpeg2VCR"...It will analize your File and correct the Gop Length and any Other Errors in the File like Audio and Video PTS time code errors.....Cheers
