Philips DVDR75 No Disc Error

I've had the DVDR75 for several months now and until recently it has been fine using yellow label Datasafe 2.4x +RW.

However in the past few weeks it seems to have developed a fault whereby when I insert a +RW it sometimes says "no disc" or identifies the disc as DVD (i.e. not recordable). This is not with every disc and can be intermittent with particular discs.

Has anybody else come across this?

I have had a look at the Philips site and noticed there is an updated firmware but I have not tried this yet, which leads to another question. My DVDR75 is a region free one (from Richersounds UK). If I upgraded the firmware would it lose the region free ability.

    Thanks

    Hello Ecky

I've got the exact same problem right now with my DVDR75. It will only play dvd's that were recorded a couple months/weeks ago.

Any new DVD+RW purchased, will record and show it's fine. But once I eject them from the recorder and insert again the recorded reads "no disc"

Have you had any luck figuring it out. Did you do a firmware update? I can't seem to record the firmware update properly using NeroExpress, (need to record in ISO level 2 - which is a whole other problem)

    Hello,

Your problem doesn't sound exactly the same as mine. The problem doesn't occur with brand new discs, it happens after I've been using the discs for a few weeks.

I bought some Verbatim +RWs a week ago, and so far they are working fine, but how long this will continue I don't know.

With the Datasafe discs I noticed marks appeared around the edges. As I also use the discs in my computer I don't know whether the Philips or my computer caused the marks, but it does seem to me that a fault is appearing in the discs after a period of time. I will just have to see if the Verbatim discs go the same way.

I haven't applied any firmware updates because as I mentioned in my original post, I'm worried this would stop it being region free.

    Ecky
