My retail hdd crashed, so I decided to mod my xbox. I replaced the retail hdd with another new hdd. I installed the Xecuter 2.3b Lite Plus mod chip. I flashed 1 or the 2 banks with X2 4973. Now I am getting the Error 16 message. All the info I’ve read says I need to reinstall the retail hdd and set the clock and try again, but with my retail hdd crashed that isn’t an option. I want to install Slayers as the dashboard onto this new hdd, and I don’t know how or what to do next. Could someone explain to me the next steps?
Has no one else's retail hdd crashed? Has no one else gotten the Error 16 message? Microsoft was going to charge me $100 to fix my xbox. I'm trying to mod it and get it up and running in under $100. Can anyone help me?
I don't think modding will help much if your original HDD is ruined, and you cannot get the required data from it. The files you need are listed at, for example, http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/xbox_installing_new_hdd.cfm I'm not familiar with Error 16, though.
Don't worry it's quite easy if you know where to look. First go to the usual places and get Slayer's Auto-Install and then burn this to a CD-RW so it'll make a boot disc you'll have to insert before the error screen and when Slayer's will boot there'll be an option to rebuild large HD ... that's your option... then try to boot... if evox doesn't boot but your original dashboard loads then you're near... just reload the boot disk and then use the option to install the dash, apps & everything! use slayers to put m$ dash back on and can even put evo-x on if you wish. My Mod Chip is the Xecuter 2.3b Lite Plus. I flashed it with X2-4973 I have burned Slayer's onto many different CD-RWs, but none seem to work. I have a Thompson drive. The original retail hdd crash and i got an error 7 message or something like that. I swapped the retail hdd for a 13gig hdd i got at Office Max. Added the mod chip, flashed it, now i get the Error 16 message. Will Firefuckers or Bloody Mary's work just as well as Slayer's since i can't get Slayer's to work? Is there anyway I can take my new 13 gig hdd out of the xbox, pop it into my computer and format it the right way, since i can't get the Slayer's boot disk to work? Maybe i didn't burn Slayer's correctly? I followed the instructions in the PDF document that was compressed with the other file. Anyway, that's where i'm at. Any Suggestions? You should burn it onto a dvd-r because the thompson drive is crap and will not read many cdrw's. Burn it onto a dvd-r put it in restart xbox and boot it. Also try and put your original hdd back in and see if that works.
I install a aladdin modchp and a 160 gig western digital hard dive when I boot up the xbox it says that my xbox needs service when I put a memorex cd-rw in the cd tray the cd had on it an iso image of evox it would not boot to the cd it just went back to the same message can any body help me please! For the Thompson drive I never had any problems when using Memorex CD-RW... ok maybe you'll need to retry 3-5 times but it still works
Housesink did this happen straight after you put in your chip and booted up or has it just occured? It could be a solder splash or messed up do point. Could be a bad chip. Try taking it out and see if your xbox boots up right. Be sure to clean ALL solder off the motherboard when taking it out.
How do i burn Slayer's correctly? I've tried burning the original WinRAR Archive ISO onto a disk. I've extracted the Win Archive ISO using Craxtion and burned the extracted files onto a disk, but no luck. I've taken the original Win Archive ISO, extracted, then created an ISO using Craxtion, still nothing. So now what do i do? How do i make a Slayer's boot disk?
