PSO I&II PLUS compatibility

    I saw on EBgames.com that PSO I&II is being re-released as PSO I&II PLUS. It has extra stuff and is only $29.99 US. Comes out in August. I was wondering if this version will be able to do to the back-up/streaming right away. Or, since it's new, will it take a while?

    PSO I&II Plus has been modified by Nintendo and Sega specifically to not allow a private address to be configured as the DNS server address, therefore, the streaming technique as described in my tutorial will not work. I to have a couple theoretical ideas for a workaround for this issue, however, until it becomes available I won't know for sure if I can get it to work.

    I haven't tried it.. but does it not work letting DHCP handle the BBA setup, then checking your router for the IP of the BBA and the subnet, and then filling in all the settings (on the GC and the PC side) with that info?..

    Sounds like it would work to me.. and therefore PSO 1&2 PLUS wouldn't pose a real problem..

    Isn't the only reason we set the ips in stone so that we're sure they're not changing, and have something static to put in our configs?

    I tried different IP's using the tools in my tutorial before and while connectivity would be established, it appeared that my loader seemed to he hard-coded for the Gamecube IP of 192.168.1.32. It is my understanding that Phantasy Star Online I & II Plus is configured to not allow a private IP address to be used as a DNS or game server.

    I assume it is using the same protection as the PSO III US version and to date AFAIK now one has been able to exploit that. I tried every trick in my book and it will not accept any answer from a DNS that is not sega's, and even when spoofed with publically routable IP's the server is rejected.

    If you cant use a private IP then everyone with a router would be screwed because the router is the DNS server for your network and it (unless you are a large ISP, which I doubt) uses a private IP. Check with the command ipconfig /all There is no way it can really find out what DNS server the router itself uses.

    Ok, you could maybe try this:

    Configure the Gamecube to use an IP like 206.245.74.32 and your PC to use an IP of 206.245.74.100 with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for both. Make sure you leave the gateway info on both ends empty otherwise, using these IP addresses could conflict with real Internet traffic. Make the Gamecube to PC connection with a crossover cable and if you wish to still have your PC connected to a network simultaneously install a second network card in it, however, if you do this, make sure you don't bridge the network card to the Gamecube with another one if using Windows XP/2003 or configure a route to/from it if using an older Windows. I don't have PSO3 although in theory, if private IP's are banned this might work. If someone could try it I'd be glad to help them in any way I can but again, I can't guarantee it will work.

    The way the PSO 3 hack works, as i understand it.

    I haven't tried this, don't own PSO3, so don't take my word for it, this may for for pso 1&2 plus (not sure).

    1) Set up a dyndns.org-like address for your PC, unless you have a static IP on the internet.

    2) Say your dyndns hostname is joe.ath.cx (sorry whoever actually owns that). then you point your gamecube to joe.ath.cx instead of 192.168.1.100 (I'm assuming that's same for gateway and dns server)

    3) Think it works fine from here as long as you have your gamecube hooked up thru a router with internet access... though you might have to put a real dns server in there.

    The main problem is that they don't let you assign a "local network" ip on the gamecube (such as one starting with 192.168.*.*

    Anybody feel like testing this out?

    Hey all,

    I went out and bought PSO3 (took one for the team).
    I tried numerous times with the regular way of doing it, but could not pass this screen on PSOLOAD.

    [bold]GameCube PSO Program Loader V2.0 by Costis!
    Automatic PSO version detection enabled!
    Waiting for connections (Press Ctrl-C to exit)...Served DNS query from 192.168.1.32...[/bold]

    I read IceMonkeys way of doing with an IP such as *206.245.74.32*... but same thing as up top, also PSO3 doesn't let you have a "blank" Default Gateway. So I used the Computer's IP *206.245.74.100*, still nothing =(

    I am using two network cards, one is dedicated for Gamecube with a cross-over cable.

    xaser what operating system are you using? and if its windows xp do you have service pack 2? i used to get that same message when i didnt have service pack 2...

    well the problem really was that i had my wireless adapter connected to the internet, and my onboard nic connected to my gamecube with a xover cable. whenever i tried streaming games with my cube, if i had my wireless turned on it would say that message.. if i disabled the wireless network it would work fine... service pack 2 made it so i dont have to disable wireless at any time to stream my games ;) $$ :)

    sooo try that, either updating to SP 2 or disable your other nic that you arent using for the gamecube

    When I use PSOI&II it works fine... I just bought PSO3 and was testing it. Still testing it...
