I tried ripping and encoding a dvd and it seemed to work, but it will show the scene in english than repeat the scene in french, how do I get rid of the french scenes?

Try splitting up the VOB with MPEG Utils and then merging it with VOB Merge. That might help, although I haven't heard of different language scenes repeating themself unless seamless branching was involved.
