When I try to download software updates or load new software, I am getting the message "32 Bit Windows Subsystem, - C:SYSTEM32|AUTOEXEC.NT -- The file system is not suitable for running MS Dos & Microsoft Windows Applications.

I am running Windows XP (SP1). What has gone wrong. Can anyone help ?

    Thanks

Sounds like you have a corrupt registry value.

Click on Start -> Run and type regedit

Locate and select the following value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

Click on the Edit menu, then click Delete.
Now go back to the Edit menu, click New, and then click Multi-string Value.
Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.
    Quit Registry Editor.
