PS1/PSX Backups on a PS2

Ok, I would like to boot PS1/PSX Backups on my PS2.
I've been poking around these forums and so far all I've found is "I Think you can use action replay or gameshark." I hear that Breaker Pro will work, but I really don't want to spend another $20 on it.

So, here's my Question(s):
What ways of booting PS1/PSX backups are available to someone with a FlipTop only?

Is there some sort of PS2 Independance based loader that will load PS1/PSX games?

Please post version numbers and be as specific as you can with describing the cheat discs.

Hopefully this can be compiled and stickied somewhere.
