i just installed the asus v9520/td geforcefx 5200. i have tried everything to get the driver to install.so far i have been playing with this thing for 6 days with no luck. i have been in contact with asus, waiting for another idea. i have tried installing from the cd, then using xp add hardware option, downloaded a driver from nvidia. all say the same thing an error has ocurred the data is invalid. i have ran driver cleaner 3. i went so far as to uninstall every dvd player, dvd shrink, decrypter etc. thinking they might have held onto parts of the driver. the only thing i didnt uninstall was windows media player. anyone got any ideas? i thought might as well try afterdawn, you guys fixed any other problem ive ever had. thanks kurt
The only time I have seen an invalid data message when installing a video driver is when you don't have permission to write to the registry. Are you logged in as administrator? Also check: http://www.technologyvault.co.uk/geforce/faq.php?display=faq&nr=223&catnr=2&prog=gef&lang=en That will tell you how to set permissions for the enumeration key in the registry. Sometimes PCI/AGP/Firewire device drivers have trouble with that if the permissions aren't set.
thanks for the replies, just got home from a long day of a/c repairs. i think im the administrator the only time ive seen the admin option was when i ran it in safe mode to run driver cleaner 3 i thought about trying to install as admin but i figured that would not work. when i go to device mgr. it tells me my grafic card is not configured correctly code 1. tried to uninstall driver from that page and it says there is no driver.i tried to install driver same error. still no reply from asus tech support. i recently (2mths) read where dealing with dvd files you should have your drive sent for ntsf (i think its right )and not fat 32, i did that could it have anything to do with it? i have never had this problem since i built this computer(2 yrs.) amd xp 1600 shuttle ak31 mb 512 ddr soundblaster matxor 60gb pioneer 107 dvd-r lite-on cd-r did have just a geforce3 32mb mx card now going to the link you sent. we'll see what happens kurt
all hail xian should have checked the link before posting the second time. thank you very much still no repley from asus tech support and of couse the guys at computer deli (bought from ) were no help. i should have came here 5 days ago. i knew better than to expect better help from the manuf. then can be gotten right here, thank you again and time to reinstall i the stuff i uninstalled. kurt
what type of video card did you have before? I know if you try to mix the nvidia and catalyst drivers on a rig you can get some real headaches. I agree with Praetors question, did xp recognize the hardware and try to install its drivers? If all else fails you can always re-format and do a fresh install. I know its a PITA but I still do it on a regular basis just for my pc health. Here is an excellent guide I have found for installing windows and drivers in the best order. http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=07e6440b6ebb5ce8624846177e2c07f1&t=34558&page=1&pp=15
like i said above i should have checked the link first, it took care of my problem and still no reply from asus. so i forwarded the response to them, that way they could help people who don't have the privalage of knowing about afterdawn. i also recommended that if there tech support is that slow just refer the customers to afterdawn and they will be helped in the most curtious and fast way i have delt with. ( hope i didn't p them off to much) i know about every time i am at a computer store and overhear an employee say they don't know the answer i but in and tell the people to come here. bestbuy is my favorite to refer people from because the help there is a joke you only buy sale software at bb.
