Hi all first off i hope this is in the right forum i just want to vent a bit make me feel better. What with all the problems backing up dvds the legal aspect etc, etc I just had some f****** muppet come round to my house offering to sell me all the lates films on dvd, he is a neighbour of mine and he is making a nice little living selling these films all over the place. Just makes me really p****d off that the law frowns upon my dvd backups of films i legally own yet some plank can make a fortune selling films before they are legally available seems to me that people like this make it harder for the legal ones of us Ok rant over

That is becoming a distinct possibility beleive me, this person is responsible for the majority of pirate dvds in this area i wonder what the penalty is for that kind of stuff here in the uk

If they ask me the penalty should be castration.
It s because of tools like him that all of us suffer.

My point exactly i only backup the dvds that i personally own, i usually back them up so my kids can use them in there rooms etc and i would rather they didnt have my originals, But it is due to individuals
pirating that the backing up of dvds etc is frowned upon and makes it harder for genuine people like me and everyone else

Piracy is one thing that is almost impossible to stop. I mean, look at Hong Kong. They managed to stop SARS, but piracy is still around every corner.

They have pirate slippers, shirts, blankets, dolls, combs, and just about anything you can think off. And in Taiwan and other parts of China, you don't even want to go there.

Tip of the IceBerg: They put some plastic shit in fruits and when you eat it you're going to have a high chance of dying. The things people do for money... *sigh*

Yep, my son who is in Iraq said that there are locals selling 3 movies on a DVD for like $3.00. I guess the troops are buying them just to have something to watch. I guess some of the folks there must have their power back on....

I went to my local Quick Stop to get a cola, and standing out front of the store was some joker with a list of movies he was selling. I'm talking hundreds of titles. People were waiting in line to see what he had. He had a small business going, complete with order forms and the works. Give him a $5 deposit and he will be back the next day with your copy for $5 more. Ballsy

Hi i have noticed you'r topic i think it is the dumbest thing to do for a living to sell pirate dvd's for a few dollars off the normal price and i want to backup my dvd's for the reason that if my origanal breaks then i dont have to buy a new 1 but there is so much problems with copying them.

The problem as i see it is that it is quite a lucrative business this person is selling them at £5.00 uk pounds per copy, take into account disc, ink etc and how many copys a day he can sell, and it amounts to quite a tidy sum. Just because i back up my Original discs a few people in my town automatically assume i am a pirate and am able to get them the latest blockbuster for a few pounds. When are a few people going to realise it is simply wrong period

Fact is, you can't stop piracy, so the best you can do is just tell the guy to fusk off, call the police on him, and make him pay a lot of money/ go to jail.

Or, on the other hand, if the guy is your friend, talk to him.

a lot of people see it as easy money as the penalties are a trifle to what they can bring in.$15,000.are peanuts to them and even when you jail them another one springs up the next day

toilet man has it right when he says: Fact is, you can't stop piracy

but you can help by not buying from them

very true but, some people would rather pay $5 or $10 for a pirated movie than spend $20+tax on the same exact pirated movie.

    [bold]I am not condoning pirates![/bold]

I would seriously doubt the police would go out of his/her way to bust a guy selling a couple of pirated movies unless it's mass quantities and producing thousand's of dollar's. look at ebay, that stuff is right in front of the authorities eyes and little or nothing is being done.
