Pachter: PS4 sales to reach nearly 38 million by end of 2016

Pachter: PS4 sales to reach nearly 38 million by end of 2016 According to Wedbush gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter, worldwide PlayStation 4 sales will reach 37.7 million by the end of 2016.
For the same period, the analyst expects Microsoft Xbox One sales to total 29 million.

In his research note, Pachter adds "We expect Sony's and Microsoft's new consoles to thrive over the next three years, with cumulative worldwide sales of 37.7 million PS4 and 29 million Xbox One consoles by year-end 2016. We do not expect Nintendo's Wii U to fare as well, with cumulative sales of under 20 million by 2016."

The forecast is not the first for the industry as IHS head of games research Piers Harding-Rolls recently made a similar announcement, anticipating that the PS4 will outsell the Xbox One at 49 million units to 38 million units by the end of 2017.

Harding-Rolls noted: "IHS believes that Sony's wider geographical brand allegiance - especially across continental Europe and Japan - will be decisive in allowing PS4 to outsell Xbox One on a global basis by the end of 2017."

The PS4 launched in November, as did the Xbox One. Both reached 2 million sales within 2 weeks of launch. The Wii U launched in November 2012 and has only seen 3.91 million global sales to date. The Wii U sells for $300, the PS4 sells for $400 and the Xbox One sells for $500.

Microsoft screwed THEMSELVES by trying that stupid trick of not letting the xbone play used games and making users have an internet connection!

They finally reversed course...too little, too late!

Maybe next time both them and Sony will learn that people will not be pushed into just accepting whatever Microsoft or Sony thinks they should....people have voted...with their WALLET!

Hopefully this sends a STRONG MESSAGE to BOTH companies that used games are and SHOULD be considered when making a new console...and an internet connection should be OPTIONAL!

Not everyone has high speed internet like these two companies seem to think they do. After what Microsoft has pulled I am surprised at the number of sheepole STILL snapping up x box ones!

That's why they really want to move to digital downloads for games...nothing to trade in as used.

Projections, nothing more.

The fact is most of us (who buy both Xbox & PS) know all the scare stories either are laughably exaggerated or didn't happen.

The Sony faithful, for all their obvious pretence, were never going to buy Xbox.

Who knows how things will be next year nevermind by '17?
In truth nobody.
The fact is, as far as anyone outside Microsoft and/or Sony can tell, both are selling very well at launch.
Once the price-cuts start it will change as they to and fro.

Lots of people (like myself) refuse to buy at launch & await the first revisions to happen before thinking about buying, it is still very early days for the mass-market.
