    Hey

Whenever i try to play a dvd backup on my dads xbox it wont play, but his mates backups from work do work...

    for some strange reason

i use Datasafe media , and i think he uses datawrite..

but i dont think its a media issue.. is it?

I asked him about his process and he says he just uses stomp record now, to do everything - he puts on a AUDIO_TS i think for.... compatibility?

and burns it with the same name as his original DVD like sometimes its GWE290849 etc

whereas i use CloneDVD and AnyDVD, they dont put on a AUDIO_TS folder, and they remove everything like region codes, region scripts etc

now it the problem removing the regions scripts and codes? or is it not having a AUDIO_TS folder? or is it the name?

lol, or a combination of all three...

his xbox is not chipped, or modded at all - no
    soft-mods either

if ANYONE has any insight into the problem please tell me

also if this is not the right place for this i apoligise

    Dean

Media can make a difference (although, I have yet to see a dvd that wouldn't read on any box). As far as the other issues, I don't beleive they'd cause any issues (other than no sound, possibly. or something like that). As long as the vobs have been decoded it should play if the xbox can recognize the media.
Perhaps (I'm sure :) somebody else knows more than me on the subject. Also, you may want to post this in the xbox backup forum or the general dvd burning forum (it's something like that).

Ok, thanks very much for that info

lol - do you think it could be the
AUDIO_TS Folder, or lack there ov?

    lol, for compatibility reasons

Most probably the audio_ts is the problem... try burning the movie with Nero... it works great!

Maybe you should try to use the same types of dvd media ( memorex, sony...) that your dad uses. Also, what xbox drive do you have?

Not sure, it all depends on the dvd drive the xbox has. For me, i have a thompson drive, and it can read practically all dvd types: dvd+-r, dvd+-rw, etc.., some cd-rws , no cd-rs :(. There are three drives, Thompson, Philips, and Samsung. The thompson is kind of hard to explain, but it has a straight narrow design in the center. The philips has a key hole kind of shape, and the samsung has two small holes in the front of the tray.

Im always backing up movies, and I use PADUS DISC JUGGLER to burn them with.
I never bother making an audio_ts folder
    just the video_ts
it is possible its a media issue . Try using a sony or ritek dvd-r
I use a type of sony oem that works on every xbox dvd drive.
By the way you can play xbox dvd movies region free and without the remote, on a modded xbox, using DVDXR:)
Also I use dvd shrink it if its an help:) I find that an awesome program.

Having tried a few backed-up dvd's on my xbox I would have to say the reason it's not working is the lack of region code, my xbox isnt moded, or soft-moded and can play burnt dvd movies, but not all. I checked the dvd's that didnt work on the xbox and they were from different region codes, some where labeled - ALL, some NTSC, even though my box managed to play some [ALL] region coded movies, it wouldn't recognize the NTSC ones, try using something that would keep region codes

Sorry for my lack of editing and/or spell checking, but you should catch the drift.
