Ok first off, let me say that I'm SUPER new to the xbox modding scene. I backup my PS2 games, and recently started looking at the possibilities for my XBOX.
I was thinking of going with:
    --XBIT Solderless modchip-$59
--Western Digital 250 GB hd(how do I know if a hard drive will work in my XBOX, and do I need any cables or just the actual drive?)-$90

Does this seem like a good setup? Are my prices good? I know my dad's gonna' want to know all about these before I buy them, so I have alot of questions. Please PM me, and I will greatly appreciate your help.

    Thanks,
    XrichardX

Set up looks good. You'll only need the HDD. I also have the 250GB Western Digital in my Xbox. You will need patch cables (router), or cross-over cables, if you wanna use the FTP feature between your Xbox and PC. And trust me, it is one of the best feature.

Thanks guys. I can go with no modchip, but can I play my originals on Live without swapping my HD back? I want to be able to flip a switch and go Live. I also want to be able to load the games from my HD, and I need a modchip to do that right, for the BIOS?
So if I have my XBOX connected to my PC via router, then I can FTP with no additional cables? What is an auto installer? Is it a prog. that I'll need to download? Thanks alot guys!

It's my recommendation that you get a modchip, people who do softmod always run into many more problems than people with modchips. The Slayer's auto-installer disc will save you a lot of time. It has all the useful programs on it that you can install all at once. You need to get it and burn it.
