Microsoft slashes price of Surface 2 (Windows RT) to $349

Microsoft has slashed the price of its Windows RT-based Surface 2 tablet by $100, dropping it to $349 for the base model.
The year-old tablet is the last device to run Windows RT, and this price cut makes it clear that the company is looking to phase out the unpopular operating system.

Microsoft had put most of their marketing muscle behind the Surface Pro 3, which runs a full Windows 8.1 and includes a stylus and other notable features, leaving its older models to fend for themselves.

At $349, however, the Surface 2 can be a bargain despite its junky OS. The tablet has a 10.6-inch 1080p touchscreen, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a quad-core Tegra 4 processor, dual cameras, a microSD slot and a full USB 3.0 port.

Well, I totally love the Surface RT gen 1. But, who the HELL wouldn't rather have a full blown Windows 8.1 OS as opposed to RT??

As for this..............F YOU Microsoft for dumping your unsuccessful CRAP on the public. This thing is worth 150 bucks now that the Surface 3 is out.

100 for the Surface 1......even though my fiancee has it and we both love it!

Im behind you 100% with this comment. RT is just a half ass imitation of windows 8.1 that make you feel like you have a mobile pc in your hand just to crush your dreams when you find out that you cant even install any apps that aren't located in the store. This just doesn't make any sense what so ever but the store looks like crap because its very unorganized and of course there just about nothing on there. A the metro browser is crap as well. Trying to go back to previous pages that you view is a nightmare as you have to wait until the entire page loads up before you can do anything, even if you just went back to see something real quick. It would be faster to just type in the address of the site again than pressing back.

I've not tried Windows RT so this is a genuine question as for all I know it is totally crap. Why are people willing to accept an imitation of a desktop OS on iPad and Android tablets but not a Windows version. Both iOS and Android install apps from a store as well, admittedly not exclusively for Android but for the majority of users (who are none techy)it will be.

From what I've seen it looks like a lot of people went out and bought a tablet for $400 and then were pissed off it didn't have a full blown operating system on it. Is it just because a lot of people have tried Windows 8 desktop so there is an expectation that is not there for a Mac OSX or Linux based tablet?

Let the abuse commence.
