    hi
i got a film downloaded that somehow has a corrupt codec or something. it will play on the windows media player, but when i try the div x player on the pc it throws a wobbler. also it wont play on my medion div x, dvd player, it states the codec is not supported. is there a way i can recode the film to try and correct the errors.
using gspot it states the codec used is xvid.

you need to download the Xvid Codec to view the file http://files.divx-digest.com/software/codec/XviD-1.0.1-05062004.exe

if you want the movie to play on your dvd player, try using Nic's FourCC Changer that comes with the Xvid Codec. Open your .avi file and change the Desciption Code and Used Codec both to DIVX. But be careful, if the file uses an old version of Xvid, you might get a green colored movie. You can always change the FourCC back to DIVX.

thanks for that, i tried what you said but the file wont play even if i change the 4cc code to the other options. i have now converted it to dvd using cucusoft avi converted. it gives a slightly jerky playback but thats better than watching it on the pc.
