Those boot disks that are on psp networks are a pile of shit. They dont work without a mdchip!

You would have to burn the .cue file as an image with nero or something!

off kazaa and it was the same file name as yours. You can get it to work if you have a modchip installed!

What's the point of having one? What does does it do? If you need a modchip to boot it then u can alrady play backups.

To answer the question regarding the boot disc:

Some of the modchips for PS2's require them to play DVD backups. For example, i'm running a Nova2 modchip and although you can run PSX backups on it, it needs a preload to boot up DVD-r, or PS2 games that have been ripped onto regular CD-r media.

BTW - You can also use the Gameshark CD or Naki Memory Managers to boot.

I think all that needs to be said is "Don't be fooled by boot disks that can be downloaded from kazaa because your ps2 won't read em without a modchip, even though the lovely person on the net has told you that you don't need a modchip in the description".

If anyone here is thinking of getting a modchip, make sure its a no-swap. I know it costs more but swapping can be a pain in the ass. And to make it worse, you can loose your boot disk (like i did) and then have to order another one which could take a long time depending on where you are in the world.

You can use an Action Replay 2 (PAL) or a GameShark 2 (NTSC) to boot a game without a modchip using a swap method (knife or cog are most successful) but it often takes a few tries and is notorious for breaking your ps2. Also you have to have your games properly patched and most of the time the sound comes out screwed when you finally get it booted. So don't bother with boot disks unless you have a modchip that requires one. I would recommend a no-swap modchip however cause most boot games perfectly and most are no danger to your ps2.

couldn`t have put it better myself....

as "Dela" says - a no swap mod is best.

Email me if I don`t reply to a previously answered post. I`m probably fishing :)

beware of "Playstation PS2 REAL Boot Disc!.exe" and "Sony PS2 Hack (No Mod Chip Needed).exe". These are the 2 most downloaded boot disks. The sony hack one is actually a ps1 boot disk THAT DOESNT WORK WITHOUT A MODCHIP!!!!! the other one is also a bootdisk for the ps2 and that doesnt even boot anything with a modchip or without a modchip so don't waste your cd's guys!

How do you install a mod-chip because I have read there is a lot of soldering involved. Do you need to have soldered before to do this.

I got mine from modchip.com and it seemed pretty straight forward (although i have soldered in school so...) but don't worry, you obviously know somebody with a lot of soldering experience!

Actually for me it just runs the disk when I put it in my ps2 as my mod-chip is a no swap. Look the bottom line is that these disks cannot boot games without a modchip (I am of coarse refering to the ones you download from p2p). I don't understand why this thread just keeps going because the best thing to do is just get a modchip!

You'll just have to swap using the gameshark 2. There is an option on the gameshark that says Play Game or could be Run game.

As long as its No-Swap magic 2 then that should work just fine.
