TMPGenc rejects ac3

I have 4 episodes of a tv program in avi. Gspot says they are identical. They play correctly. When I try to convert the avi to mpg2, demuxing the audio, 2 out of the 4 ac3s don't work. That is, TMPGenc author tells me that I have an illegal format. The other 2 episodes have converted to vob files just fine. I used virtualdub mod to demux all, more than once. TMPGenc express doesn't like any of them. WinAVI produces a file that TMPGenc authour won't write. Presently I am trying to recompress in Virtualdub as someone suggested in another question.
Any suggestions?

 

Fix the ac3 files that TMPGEncDVDauthor wont accept with besplit ,then it should accept them fine.
