I just recently downloaded a ripping tool called #1 DVD Ripper and its pretty user friendly. It lets me chose whether to rip the DVD into Mpeg-1(VCD), Mpeg-2(SVCD), or Avi(Divx). So i've got my DVD(Midnight Express), I do not have a DVD burner so I want to turn the DVD into Mpeg-1 and make a VCD out of it. The thing is that the estimated file size of the mpeg-1 file after ripping is going to be 1089.4 MB, or roughly a gig. If i rip the movie into a mpeg-2 file it is going to be 2239.9 MB, lets just that thats a lot. Anyway, is there anyway(setting or something else) that will allow me to rip the DVD to a Mpeg-1 file small enough to fit on a 700Mb Cd-R disc? or am I going to be stuck with burning two Cd-r's? any help would be grealy appreciated.

Not familiar with that program you are using. If you look at the threads, you'll find a lot of different ways to do what you want to do. For AVI files (Divx,Xvid), I use DVD Decrypter to rip an ISO Read file, and FairUse Wizard to encode. Both are free. I found out about Fair Use from the Dell Axim Pocket PC forums, which, by the way, are equal to this site in terms of information. Fair Use allows you to to choose your output file size (the free version allows rips up to 700mb), codec, cropping, resolution, audio bitrate, etc. Common to both of these websites are the problems we have in ripping DVDs into small files. So it's interesting to see what's going on in other sites where users have similar and common problems.
