1x-8x dvd's

    how come i get a message that says illegal disk, burn process failed, when i try to use these discs in my 4x dvd burner,shouldnt these be compatible??

    The burner's firmware tells it what brand/format/s/and controls the speed at which it will burn media.If that manufacturers code is not programmed into it's firmware,it will not burn it.

    You are using 1-8x media in your burner which specifies 4x,a firware update may help.

    What burner,name and model#,are you using?
    What is it's firmware version?
    What media brand name and format are you trying to burn? example sony + 1-8x,maxell-8x.
    Is this a pc burner or a stand alone home burner?

    Poor quality media and wrong format can also screw you up.

    thanx for lookin out ,but after i started this thread i found out about the firmware update, so i tried it and it worked!! thanx anyway
