i was speaking to my mate at work earlier about certain boxes eurovox etc and he says i have wasted my money and there was no need for me to buy it, he said he gets all the channels, sky sports, setanta etc through his freeview box.

he said all i have to do is buy a decent freeview box for about £60 and some special sort of digital ariel and put the ariel in the attic or on the outside of the house and it will pick up like 200 odd channels with no subscription needed!

now i found this hard to belive but he said to come round his house sometime and he will show me to prove hes not talking bollocks.

so i guess what i'm asking is has anybody else heard about this or actually doing it cuz i'd like to get some more detailed info on it from someone on here who might be using it and maybe you could help me out for which ariel to buy etc.

Everything is possible, I have heard of people picking up sat chs from rooftop aerial and to what I can gather this is kind of like a bleed over signal, I have never seen this myself though.

If you are in a UK cable area you need a DVB-C box such as your eurovox.

If you are in ireland some areas are MMDS so you would need a DVB-T box such as starview Box-T as that signal uses rooftop aerial but only in Ireland only. The UK generally tends to use Sat, cable or FTA only. Personally if you have the right box for your service you have not wasted your money.

Right now no box is designed for the UK for FTA as simply not enough chs available yet for a developer to design a box for freeview.

Your m8 is either luckly picking up MMDS sigs if he is in ireland or someones Sat in the UK.

nah he lives in the uk i'm not gonna say the exact area for obvious reasons but he lives in the south west midlands so i doubt it would pick up mmds signals.

he didn't actually need the box in the end tho cuz his hd tv had freeview built in but with this ariel he picked up like 280 channels and they were not locked he had all the porn, sports and movies etc.

i have yet to go round there but when i do i'll post more info and i'll ask him what ariel he uses but apparently this is an ariel you can buy in the shops.
