Okay folks, here's the deal. I have non-functioning Xbox 360. I don't know why it's not working, but it's just not. It's not under warranty, so it can't go back.

Now, here's the strange thing - it'll still happily run games off of the hard drive and connect to Live if you disconnect the DVD drive. With the DVD drive plugged in, it won't even start.

I haven't got the red ring of death. ( yet)

Would a replacement dvd Drive fix this problem??

did you buy the box in this condition or was it yours from day one??

the reason i ask is the only time i personally have seen this problem is when someone has f**ked up the heat gun repair method usually by blasting the whole board willy nilly with the heat gun.
is it possible that has happened with your box?

if you can get your pc to recognize the drive then you should be able to extract your key but (and this is a really big but)but if your mobo's ports are damaged then you are pretty much knackerd m8

    best of luck freind

I was considering buying this from a friend of a friend. I suppose if it could be easily repaired, he would have already done it.

    Thanks for the advice
