I bought a new comp with an 8600GT and was tihnking if an extra 8600GT would be better than replacing my 8600Gt with an 8800GT. How big is the performance gap and its it worth the extra cash???

Get the 8800GT. It is far better because not all games use SLi, so you will be stuck with just one card (your 8600). Crysis doesnt work with SLi yet, so a 8800GT will be better.

The 8800GT is far better than the 8600GT. Yes, there is a HUGE performance gap. If you do not want to spend so much, the HD3850 is the way to go. At only $180 it provides exceptional performance. The HD3850 is as good,if not better, as high end DX9 generation cards and it will be able to run all games, other than Crysis, at very high detail level (this also depends on your resolution and whether you have AA enabled). So sell the 8600GT, don't even waste your money on a second card because a single HD3850 will beat out 8600GT SLI setup any day (not to mention you HAVE to have an nVidia chipset just to consider SLI) and buy a HD3850 for $180 or a 8800GT for $300 if you can find one.
