I have the DVR105 with the 1.33 firmware upgrade. I know I cannot burn at the 8x speed, but can I burn 8x media at 2/4x speed in this drive? Will the media even be recognized by the drive?

Yes you can very easily burn X8 media in that drive not to mention x16 also. Just remember the drive will only burn it at x4 but normally you can burn any DVD -R in that drive X1 all the way to the fastest.. Most the media you buy will state 1x to 8x or what ever the fastest speed is.

Hope this helps you out... By the way that is a rock solid drive!!! I have the nec 2500A and 3500A now but that drive is still going strong in my daughters PC with well over 700 burns on it...
