While still relatively new to dvd copying, I've successfully copied a number of dvd's. Well, I guess "successfully" is questionable, because I'm getting mixed results with respect to closed captions. Some of my copies have them, and some don't.

At first I thought that the problem was something like capturing video from vhs, but then I realized that shouldn't be it: if the closed captions are digitally encoded on the original dvd, copying the dvd should copy the digital data used for closed captions.

Are there any known circumstances where copying a dvd would result in the loss of closed captions? Say any kind of "shrink" operation, or burning from a video_ts folder rather than an ISO?

Or, would the ripper settings (I use dvd decrypter) come into play here?

the only time you would loose them would be in the process of reauthoring (compressing, shrinking). Both shrink and dvd2one have options in them to choose wheather to exclude subtitles or include them. That is actually how they are refered to in both, is "subtitles". Its in there, give it another try and you'll see it.
