acer slimline rom drive

    hi having trouble with mylaptop dvd drive. some dvd,s and dvd- discs fale to load up when inserted into the drive thus not letting me watch a dvd or access the data on the discs any ideas ?

    Run the Nero Info Tool and look at the configuration to make sure that 'DMA' is shown turned on for the Hard Drive(s) and DVD burner.

    Uninstall the drivers using the device manager, reboot and let Windows re install them.
    My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD Rom and uninstall the burner.

    Check for firmware update:

    Put the drive information from Nero in the search box.

    thanks dma is on on the hard drive,but switched off on the dvd rom. how do u switch it on ? and do istill need to uninstall the drivers ?

    The burner is either on the Primary or Secondary channel of the IDE controller.
    If you click on 'properties' > 'advanced' you will see the devices and the settings.
    Uninstalling the primary or secondary channel drivers and rebooting, allows Windows to re install them.
    This should reset to DMA for the burner.
