I´ve been trying to add permanent subtitles to any avi movie. I start by using VirtualDub, and then I use TMPGEnc to Frameserve. The problem is that by creating a new MPEG file, with TMPGEnc, I end up with a video file which is way too long (847MB) to fit in an ordinary 700MB CD-R. What can I do? Am I using the right encoder/tools?
I´d be thankful for any support.

I use Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder (for VCD) or MainConcept Encoder (which also does SVCD), and are both not free.
And as for the size, I sue Nero to burn my stuff and sometimes it might consider a 800 MB+ file as 700 MB-. As a MB is actually 1024 kb you are able to burn a 700+ CD sometimes on a 700MB media. And of course you can use a 780MB/ 90 minutes CD-R.
