If I am going to be backing up my DVD movies, which type of DVD+/-R(W) should I be using? I am using a burner that can burn both formats (Sony DRU-540A) From what I have read, DVD-R/RW are the standard and DVD+R/RW is a newer format. Is it true that DVD-R/RW are slighlty better in terms of playability in standalone (regular) DVD players? Basically, should I be opting for DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW for my DVD movie backing up purposes? Furthermore, should I be using R or RW disks? Thanks!!
From what I've read DVD-R are compatible with more machines and they cost a little less. You might find DVD-RW will not play in older machines. I've used DVD-R for over a year with excellent results and I use DVD-RW only for backing up files and information etc. I've been using DataWrite and bulkpak which are very cheap. Tried the more expensive TDK and Memorex and ended up making coasters - not worth the expense.
Not worth the expense? Interesting you say that... it seems like Ritek is the brand of choice on these boards... THanks tho!!
Hi PumPum I'd suggest you go for good quality DVD-R (Ritek G04, G05, Verbatim, TDK). DVD-RW are not really neccessary unless you intend to re-use them.
