Does anyone know of a way to tell what version your PS2 is without having to take the darn thing apart. I am going to order a chip and have an electronics friend of mine install it. But I really dont want to have to take the darn thing apart just to find out the Version number and than put it all back together again so I can bring it to him. Thanks in advance._X_X_X_X_X_[small]Mojo[/small]

on the back is a sticker, look for SCPH 3000x (x=1,2,3 so on)

    V4 ps2 = SCPH 30001
    V5,6 ps2 = SCPH 30001 R (must have R)
    V7 = SCPH 39000 (its starts with 39)

Does anyone know if I have version 1 or 4? I have 10 screws, and metal on my expansion bay cover. Thanks for any help.

I was wrong in my above post, see below for info
    USA PS2 Versions

    Version 1
Serial number begins with a 'U1' and has a total of 10 case screws (located on bottom of case)

    Version 2
Serial number begins with a 'U0' and has a total of 10 case screws (located on bottom of case)

    Version 3
Serial number begins with a 'U2' and has a total of 10 case screws (located on bottom of case)

    Version 4
Serial number begins with a 'U3' 'U4' 'U5' or a 'U6' and has a total of 8 case screws (located on bottom of case)

    Version 5
Your model number contains the letter 'R' at the end (example SCPH-30001 R)

    Version 6
The web is alive with references to a new 'V6' version of the console. There is NO V6 version released yet, this is just a V5 version with the motherboard connector for the front panel button connecting ribbon reversed. All Driver versions remain the same, therefore this is just a V5 variant and does not warrant classification as a 'V6

    Version 7
    Models 39001 & 39002 & 39003
