Anyone know how to reduce the size of an MP3 file ...

    so it may be burned to a 1 or 2 CDs. It is 118 MB. I understand the only way might be to convert it using a lower bitrate although I don't how to proceed with that bit of info.

    Are you trying to burn an audio cd that can be played on any player or are you trying to burn a mp3 cd ?

    You've just nailed how un-savy I am about this whole thing.
    Right. You can't play MP3s on a regular CD player.
    Ideally, I would like to burn a regular CD to play on a CD player.
    I have this file in both MP3 And Wave format.(not music but lecture so high quality is not essential)
    Neither fit on to a standard CD.
    If I could just "split" the file & burn, I would. But, don't know how.
    I was told I have to convert it to lower bitrate to fit it on disc.

    My knowledge will leave room in a thimble.

    Some players will play either reg. audio cd's or mp3 cd's. You will have to see if your player will play either.The file size is not as important as the time of the duration of the file when burning a reg. cd. If you want to go with a reg. audio cd , I would cut the mp3 file with this program...

    and then burn as many audio cd's as needed for the total file.Good luck.

    Thanks undine. I am starting to get where I want to be. In order to burn
    a regular CD(not mp3s) should I convert the split mp3 files to wav then burn? You know I probably have this file in wave also. Should I hunt for a way to split that and then burn. My luck locating an easy to use won ran out.

    After you split the mp3 file , most burning programs (like Nero , Burrrn , etc.)will input the mp3 file as is and burn the reg. audio cd.from it. If you don't have a burning program here is a free one...

    If you have any problems with this procedure you can change the mp3 to wav with this free program and then burn the wav file...
