Anyone know what this hardware is?

    I took a ps2 apart to get ready to install a modchip. and I see something I've never seen before....the pics kinda suck but it's a small pcb with a battery mounted to the side of the cd drive. This is a 39001 so should be a v7 by all accounts? The pcb has "GB-003" on it.

    Probably the BIOS battery (keeps the date and time) would be my guess.

    I think you're right...I was thrown off by the fact that it's not on the mobo. I guess this is a v4 ps2 with v7 sticker on the back lol so now I'm really stumped how that happened

    allot of the PS2s that got sent into Sony for repair during all the DRE problems got old mobos installed into them during their 'repairs', i've modded v10's with v4 boards in them with updated LAs
