I have gotten alot of mixed information about archiving my VHS tapes to DVD. I have a powerful pc with a cd and dvd burner but no firewire ports. Does anybody have some good suggestions on how to satisfactorily archive my VHS tapes to DVD-R discs? Thanks for any help!

Hello Chevy, this is what I did with my VHS tapes:

    1. Analog capture via DVStorm into PC (lots of disk space) as DV AVI format.

    2. Edit out the unwanted bits, also correct the colours and sound quality if required using StormEdit (or Adobe Premiere). Make note of the frames I want to insert chapter points later during authoring. Save as reference AVI.

    3. Calculate the optimal bitrate according to the length of the entire video, then convert to mpeg2 stream either with the hardware encoder or CCE.

    4. Author using DVDit, insert chapter points.

    5. Burn via PrimoDVD.

Many other ways I could have achieved this task, but this method works well for me with the minimum fuss.
