if your ps2 is a v5+ then you should be ok with dvd+r, if its a v4 then you have a 50/50 chance that they will work, if its a v1-3 then you have a slim chance that they will work

Would it be a good idea to use DVD-R's instead as I have a V3 PS2?

if you have a v3 then you have a better chance of them working with dvd-r

TDK & Verbatim Dvd+R discs work fine on my v3.
I find that they work better than Dvd-R discs.
You should give them a try and see if they work for you.
