I just purchased ATIVA External DVD&+RW Drive w/ LightScribe on Ebay, without the software that comes with it. Can I use it without any driver software, just like a plug and play? Where can I find technical support for this drive? Please help.

Sorry, it should have been AKTIVA External DVD&+RW Drive w/ LightScribe. Not ATIVA

If it's Ativa that's an Office Depot 'brand' name.
    Is this the drive? link

Look on the back of the drive - you should have a model # there.
    What does it say?

Most drives are plug and play so you should be good. The software that comes with them is usually like an oem disc of nero, powerdvd etc.

Do you have a link for the drive from ebay?

If it's an Ativa you may have gotten lucky - they can be made by LiteOn - great drive. The model # on the back will tell us though.

    Hi zamalek
Yep I think you may have gotten a good deal. This drive should be a LiteOn LH-18A1H. LiteOn's are great burners.

Heck you got it for $26 - Office Depot sells it for $110.

Once you get it just check the back for the model # - hopefully it will be the one above.

Oh and you're welcome on the help!

Let us know when it comes in.

You were correct. The model number is: LH-1H18AX. It worked fine without additional drivers or software. It's in brand new condition too.

Now, I would like to use the "lightscribe" feature. I have the older Nero 6.0 version, that doesn't support lightscribe. Are there other freeware lightcribe software somewhere I could download?

    Good deal then!

You mean the model # is LH-18A1HX and not LH-1H18AX right?

If you have cover designer in Nero that's where LightScribe is. it would be listed under apps in SmartStart.
Not sure which version they added LightScribe in but update package 1 of Nero to 6.6.1.15a which has cover designer. Here's a link
