Edit: Thanks to Lethal for stickying it. :)

    Hey all,

It's really great to see that you guys are helping others with problems on their computers. I'm sure those who have received help are really grateful for your time and efforts. :)

But I would like to remind everyone that unless you have gone through proper training programs at GeekU, Bleepingcomputer, SWI and other well-known forums for malware removal, you should NOT give malware advice and fix entries in people's logs.

Here is a quote from Grinler's HijackThis Tutorial at Bleepingcomputer:

    Warning

HijackThis should only be used if your browser or computer is still having problems after running Spybot or another Spyware/Hijacker remover. HijackThis is an advanced tool, and therefore requires advanced knowledge about Windows and operating systems in general. If you delete items that it shows, without knowing what they are, it can lead to other problems such as your Internet no longer working or problems with running Windows itself. You should also attempt to clean the Spyware/Hijacker/Trojan with all other methods before using HijackThis. If you allow HijackThis to remove entries before another removal tool scans your computer, the files from the Hijacker/Spyware will still be left on your computer and future removal tools will not be able to find them.

If you do not have advanced knowledge about computers you should NOT fix entries using HijackThis without consulting an expert on using this program.

So, please, unless you are a trained expert in HijackThis logs analysis, please DO NOT propose fixes to people asking for help. I'm sure none of you here want to damage other people's systems instead of assisting them.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. :)

This is a serious topic, while I do not intend to force anyone to agree with what I'm saying, I would like everyone to take this issue seriously. We, as malware removers, must be responsible so as to provide the best help to users.

    LTangelic,

I see your giving advice to everyone helping out here, but are you REALLY an expert?

I checked ALL the sites you mentioned.

At GEEKS TO GO.COM. Shows you joined on, 6 Jan 08.

Here’s two comments you made there.

“Please, do not follow any type of Malware advice from someone who has not completed training.”

“I’m not a fully trained staff and cannot assist you. Only Malware staff can analyse logs for you.”

Next, I checked BLEEPING COMPUTER.COM. You joined there, 30 Dec 07.

I couldn’t find you there as a staff member or even in training?

    Finally, I checked SWI.COM. You joined, 10 Feb. 08.

Which shows you as a Helper Trainee.

But, again I couldn’t find you there helping anyone.

At Geeks To Go, you state your 16 years old and living in China. How can someone so young, with limited HJK log and Malware training be considered an expert? As you would have the folks here believe.

    LTDevil,

Firstly, I am NOT LTangelic, I don't know how you got the impression that I am LTangelic, but I am not.

Secondly, I did training at Geekstogo a long time ago, if I remember correctly, it was about two years ago. After that, I wasn't really active anymore due to the busy life I had. I was an upperclassmen trainee (GeekU Senior if I remember correctly)at that time, and I was already able to post to live logs with the help of experts. After I quit GeekU, I pretty much learned the rest myself, looking at how other malware specialist go about fixing the various infections.

I do have all the resources and tools I need for fixing a log on my computer, and I have helped lots of my real life friends with such problems. I do know what tools I should use and how to analyse the various logs for various tools, and I do know the risks of running certain tools like The Avenger and I research fully before I propose a fix.

You can take a look at the various topics I posted to on here, and see if any one of those I have helped has complained about problems caused by my fixes.

LTDevil: "Keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them!"

There is one malware removal expert who I can think of off the top of my head, who, when he was LTangel's age, received the Microsoft MVP award for security even though he was not yet of legal age. Age is a completely irrelevant factor. I am only fourteen, and am a trusted helper at Geeks to Go. The person I have mentioned was fourteen and considered an expert and seasoned veteran.

I find that to be very offensive, and the person I mentioned above would probably find it offensive as well.

But if you do not feel comfortable being helped by people "so young, with limited HJK [sic] log and Malware training", you are free to find some other forum to go to. I 100% guarantee you that there will be people just as young as us.

    Have a nice day.
