    @help123

    Why would you uninstall them for?

    If you did exactly as stated by the guide (i.e. "uninstalled" your drivers), then Windows should re-installed back and reversed it back to DMA Mode or DMA available.

    Unless you're the few that has a Nvidia drivers, then you may need to tweak a little deeper. I can't remember where, but if you do a search then I'm pretty sure you'll come across an answer.

    Hi

    i went thru these PIO.DMA enablign guides from cd club freaks and afterdawn, in this thread too, i've done instructions for deleting the certain cells in Regedit then rebooting every time. I mean my DMA's are back to the default Windows XP IDE drivers, i unisntalled them and rebooted but my NERO burning software to burn audio cd's is still failign or freezing at 7%, it has slightly a sound on the freeze that goes "tick-buzz" every 20 seconds or so. It has always been able to burn at 8x... suddenly i'm making another post like all the others , but the guides on the forums have not fixed the problem still.
    I have taken these screenshots of my certain windows of Neroinfotool log, PLUS a screenshot on my IDE channels , there seems to be liek DOUBLE the Primary and secondary ide channels in device manager. Is this possible? They all say (no conflicts) so far though. And all the dma stuff is enabled, and i went thru the nvidia guide as well.

    Based off of my screenshots and log files, just give me instructions with this format: step 1 and reboot. step 2 and reboot. etc.

    please respond at yoru most earliest convienance. Sincerely thank you for any helps, could this lastly have to do with the ASPI not being installed, BUT the NERO ASPI IS installed, i wondered which one should i use, currenty using the nero one but its not fixing the problem with my nero and burning cd-r drive either.

    screenshots of my Device Manager & Nerodriveinfotool software etc are here:

    Alkohol,
    I did the uninstall method u described because of recent slow encode problems. Ultra DMA is showing in primamry and secondary IDE channels but I'm still getting slow encoding. It was never like this...I used to encode & rip an entire dvd in about 15-20 minutes! My frames/sec in Nero recode have dropped from 280-320 to an all time low of 50-97 frames/sec. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it. My drives (Plextor 716-A)firmware is up to date as well as everything else.I already know my computers potential but somethings missing. Please help. Thank You,

    @sodotch33

    Here are a few tips to keep in mind and you'll need to perform them on a daily basis or 3 times a week:

    (01) run scan disk or disk clean up
    (02) defrag your hard drive
    (03) delete all temp files and cookies when shutting down your system or when you're not using your computer
    (04) update your dvd burner's firmware to the latest available
    (05) don't multi-tasking when ripping or burning
    (06) disconnect from the net completely
    (07) disable all Anti-Virus programs when ripping and burning
    (08) release/free up more memory ram if possible
    (09) disable/shut off all other unnecessary/unuse programs that's running
    (10) disconnect all ide cables or wires via burner, wait 45 seconds - 1 minute and re-connect everything back, now restart your system.

    Best of lucks to you and happy burning!

    Alkohol,
    Have been doing most of the things U put on the list since I started burning. Went through the list and performed them anyway and still no luck with my slow encoding. I'm runnig a P4 3.8GHz w/2G of ram..for burning I'm using dvd for free decrypter coupled with nero recode and my Plextor 716-A.It made flawless copies of my own dvd's. when I first purchesed this computer and installed my burner it ran like a champ and burned so fast and then one day I turned on my computer to find nero recode running so slow. Any other ideas??? Thanks for the help...

    Thanks mate. Komet

    A Couple of questions if you don't mind ALKOHOL.

    I am sure that you know, but if you press the windows key and the pause break key at the same time it will take you to system properties a little quicker.

    I have two computers and here is what I get.
    #1
    a burn takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes a little slower than the 30 minutes it used to take.
    I have two secondary devices and two primary devices listed.
    In the primary under the first one I have Ultra dma mode 5 listed under o and then on the second one i have Ultra dma mode 5 listed under device 1. I assume this is alright.
    but
    under the secondary ide, i also have two listed and on both I have
    auto detection
    dma if available
    and not applicable on both device 1 and o.
    Is this a problem?

    #2
    I am going to follow your excellent instructions because this one takes about 4-7 hours to burn and I have the following

    Primary
    device o
    not applicable
    device 1
    pio mode

    secondary
    device 0
    ultra dma mode 2
    device 1
    ultra dma mode 2

    I assume that i must get rid of the dreaded pio mode. Thanks for the great guide and hopefully you will be able to answer the questions.

    @Doug

    Just follow Alkohol's guide on page 1. It has pictures and comments on how to turn your DMA back on.

    Thanks, I know that and have done that on my second computer and the guide was great. I was wondering whether I needed to do it on computer #1 with the info I supplied. Any help is appreciated.
    thanks

    Yes do the same for your first computer. Your DMA should be on for your secondary ide also.

    I just tried to uninstall and then restart my computer for both the secondary ide and even though i did it twice I still get "not applicable' in the transfer mode. Is that a problem?
    thanks again

    What is on your secondary ide cable? DVD burner? CD burner? And can you read a disc when inserted to your secondary drives.

    Thanks, that may be the problem. I just bought a new dvd rom and had it installed this morning and it may not be working properly. I will get it checked right away. Previous to that I only had one dvd burner installed and nothing else.
    thanks again for everything

    @Alkohol,

    You have made another very nice guide!! I have a question for you though.

    I was doing some reading on Starforce, and it seems like this can also force your optical drives into PIO mode. I do not have Starforce on my PC, but if you are infected with it will it show up in the device manager that you are in PIO mode or will it show DMA and run in PIO?

    Also, here is a link to the Starforce Driver Removal tools for anyone that wants them:

    http://onlinesecurity-on.com/downloads/sfdrvrem.zip

    For those that do not know, Starforce is a "copy protection" that is found on some games. It however acts like a virus by installing drivers that have system level permissions. This can exploit your PC and allow trojans and such into your system. Also, as an extra means of "protection", it forces your optical drives into PIO mode which can eventually destroy them or render them useless.
