What is the main cause of out of synch Audio?

I get this problem when using Ulead's Video editing software (Ulead MediaStudio Pro7.0) the audio will be out by as much as 3 seconds.
    Another quick question

A lot of files are now encoded in ac3 audio which ulead and almost all encoding software wont recognise. Now i know how to isolate it and transform it into a wav file but would it be better to render the video with no sound and then at the authouring stage bring in the audio in a better quality format

keep up the good work forum people this is the best
and most informative site on the web bar none

Loss of sync has several causes, the main being other software with a higher priority for processor time, limitations of your system which causes dropped frames, requiring too high a bitrate or precision or using too many filters.

Try disabling all other software during capture or dubbing, use a lower movement precision during compression, lower bitrate and/or use only one video filter at a time to see if any particular filter is swamping the system.

Loss of sync is easily repaired using VirtualDub
