What Nero program were you using.

If you're making backup copies of the DVDs you own, either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode should suffice.

If you're converting downloaded AVIs to be DVD compliant, the ausio sync problems are somewhat expected with Nerovision. Some versions do better than others so upgrade to the latest version. There's also DVD Flick (free) and ConvertXtoDVD (free trial) you may find better luck using with AVIs.
